Hungarian law enforcement professionals (border guards and police offi-cers) first participated in the military inspection and supervision tasks of the International Commission of Control and Supervision- ICCS, between 1973-1975 in Vietnam.
Hungarian Police has been participating in police peacekeeping missi-ons organized and managed by the United Nations (UN) since 1989 (Namibia).
Based on bilateral and multilateral agreements, we have been present in other military and police peace support, peace building and civilian crisis management tasks since 1995 (Sinai Peninsula, Afghanistan, Jordan).
Our colleagues have been working as police experts (trainers, consul-tants, etc.) in the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) since 1999 (mainly in Central Asia and the Balkan countries).
At the request of the Western European Union, the predecessor organi-zation of the European Union (EU), in 1999 we delegated police officers to the Multinational Advisory Group operating in Albania.
Even before our accession to the European Union, our country was in-vited to participate in the first EU Police Mission in Bosnia and Her-zegovina, which was launched in 2003.
Although the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is primarily involved in military crisis management, since 2001 we have also provided law en-forcement experts to the organization at its request (e. g. Afghanistan, Albania).
Currently Hungary is providing more then one hundred professional law emforcement personel for peacekeeping and civilian crises manage-ment missions!
